From Rare Disease Research to Medical School: Jadin Heilmann and Norman Liu Embark on Next Chapter

We’re proud to celebrate two talented members of the Center for Precision Medicine- Jadin Heilmann and Norman Liu- as they begin their medical school journey this fall at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.

Jadin Heilmann is a UW–Madison graduate with degrees in Genetics & Genomics and Neurobiology. Since June 2022, she has served as a Clinical Research Coordinator with the UW Undiagnosed Disease Program, working under the mentorship of Dr. Bryn Webb, Dr. Stephen Meyn, and April Hall, MS, CGC. In this role, Jadin helps uncover the genetic causes of rare diseases through whole genome sequencing and supports families throughout the diagnostic journey. Her research interests include rare disease genetics and improving diagnostic outcomes for undiagnosed patients.

Norman Liu is a UW–Madison graduate with a degree in Genetics and Genomics. He joined the Webb Lab as an undergraduate research assistant in January 2023 and transitioned to a full-time Research Specialist role after graduation. Norman’s work focuses on modeling mitochondrial diseases using human induced pluripotent stem cells, which he differentiates into cortical neurons to study disease mechanisms.

Both Jadin and Norman have made meaningful contributions to advancing research and innovation in precision medicine. Their dedication to scientific inquiry and patient-centered care will undoubtedly enrich their medical education and future clinical practice. Congratulations to both on the start of this exciting new chapter!
